Humour is Black in the West. When super stud Johnny Depp was asked to comment on Will Smith being paid more than him in Hollywood, he raised his middle finger! I am sure, he meant no offence. What he was trying to say that he hardly cares about who’s paid what. Compared to Smith’s $80 Million annual Income, The Pirates of Caribbean star earns approximately $72 Million a year and stands second in the world’s highest paid actors’ list. The reason it’s commendable for Depp is that he isn’t out and out a commercial star. He ventures into art stuff very often and we all know that art products don’t rake in the moolah as much as power-packed commercial franchise does! Though, Depp’s critically acclaimed Stephen Sondheim serial-killer musical Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Flat Street, failed to set box office records, it won him an Oscar nomination. Now, what more can he ask for, after all that money and fame?

I think you are right in the interpretation of his gesture. It was a fitting response to the reporters who are always looking to extract offensive remarks from the celebs by asking provocative questions. Smith is Smith and Depp is Depp....why the hell should he care...?...
